Position Description

Inpatient adult forensic psychiatric facility is seeking a Inpatient Mental Health Registered Nurseto join their team.

About the Opportunity

  • On Site, Hybrid, Remote: on site
  • Shift: 7am-7:30pm and 7pm-7:30am
  • Schedule: Full time - 3 shifts per week including weekends and some holidays
  • Setting: Inpatient Mental Health

Responsibilities included but not limited to are:

  • Diagnose and treats human responses to actual or potential health problems through such services as case-finding, health teaching, health counseling and provides care, supportive to or restorative of life and well being, and executes medical regimes prescribed by a physician or dentist.
  • Assessment:
    • a) Completes an accurate assessment of individual patient's need for treatment. Utilizes the nursing process to identify patient problems and appropriate nursing interventions.
    • b) Communicates assessment findings to nursing staff and other health care professionals via the medical record, the Nursing Care Plan, and the Treatment Plan and verbally through shift to shift Hand-off Communication.
    • c) Assesses the need for patient and family instruction/teaching regarding the patient's medical/psychiatric diagnosis and identified medication/treatment regime.
    • d) Formulates Nursing Diagnosis for each patient based on assessment findings.
    • e) Utilizes the Patient Acuity System to determine patient needs to maintain standards of care.
    • f) Assesses personal learning needs related to delivery of patient care.
    • g) Assess the learning capabilities of individual patients as it relates to delivery of patient care.
  • Planning:
    • a) Formulates an individual written care of plan for each patient based upon comprehensive assessment findings, utilizing patient and family input.
    • b) As a member of the treatment team, the RN is involved in the treatment planning process.
    • c) Contributes in the development of patient outcomes that are specific and measurable within a realistic time frame.
    • d) Updates the plan of care based on ongoing assessment. d) Develops a patient education and discharge plan based upon assessment of patient/family needs and learning capabilities.
    • e) Establishes priorities in patient care to utilize time in an efficient manner.
    • f) Collaborates with other health care professionals regarding the patient's plan of care.

Requirements:

  • License and current registration to practice as a Registered Nurse in NYS.
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Certification
  • 1 year of post licensure experience working in a clinical setting as a Registered Nurse

Preferred:

  • Preferred qualification: Minimum one year of experience working in a Behavioral Health setting
