Position Description

A nonprofit community services organization in New York City is currently seeking a new Registered Nurse for a promising opportunity with their Foster Care program. In this role, the Registered Nurse (RN) will be responsible for overseeing, coordinating, and providing medical and mental health care for the children, including screening for infectious diseases, managing prescription medication, and responding to medical emergencies.

About the Opportunity:

  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Assignment Length: Ongoing (Contract to Hire potential)
  • Schedule: Monday to Friday
  • Hours: 3pm to 11pm
  • Patient Population: Foster Care (Ages 2-17)
  • EMR: Electronic State System Connections

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accurate and current information on children taking prescription medication, ensuring proper dosage separation
  • Track children with EpiPens and inhalers and provide training to staff and foster parents on proper use
  • Supervise procedures for students taking medication during school hours.Provide individual supervision to medical coordinators
  • Maintain contact with prescribing doctors, foster parents, and staff to ensure correct prescriptions are followed, including regular review of medication logs
  • Review and maintain accurate and current health records in accordance with local governmental regulations and funder requirements
  • Promote and assist in the control of communicable diseases through prevention, early detection, surveillance, and reporting to the appropriate local health authority
  • Assist in the development of emergency response plans
  • Document all health visits or consultations in the UC Portal and physical charts as required by funders and state licensing
  • Provide health education assistance and training, as needed
  • Teach parenting skills related to child development and health needs of children as needed
  • Assist with first aid procedures for medical emergencies.
  • Perform other duties, as needed

Qualifications:

  • 1+ year of Nursing experience
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • NYS Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Experience in a Medical and/or Teaching hospital role/setting
