Position Description

Student Health and Counseling (SHAC) at Manhattanville College seeks a FT Nurse (RN) to practice ten months per year, 35 hrs/wk (M-F, 9a-5p), in a college-based outpatient setting.  This position is located in Health Services within Student Health and Counseling Services and reports to the Assistant Director of Student Health and Counseling and Associate Dean of Student Health and Counseling.

Salary: $51,000

Qualification Requirements:

  • Active and clear licensing in NYS
  • Graduate degree from an accredited program
  • Minimum of 2 yrs experience as a Nurse
  • Current provider card in Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Able to use AED

Preferred: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is appreciated.

Specific Clinical and Administrative Functions:

  • Assess the health needs of students, provide immediate and follow-up care as needed
  • Knowledge of NYS immunization requirements
  • Knowledge, understanding and compliance with HIPAA/FERPA
  • Maintain ethical standards and code of conduct
  • Initiate referrals to specialty services and foster continuity of care.
  • Conduct a comprehensive review of medical history, physical examinations
  • Documentation: progress notes, intake/discharge summaries, documentation of important findings/diagnoses/assessments, psychosocial history
  • Complete necessary paperwork and reports, filing, and organizing reports accurately and in a timely manner
  • Monitor, record and report assessment findings (symptoms and changes in health status) and interventions
  • Communicate findings in your assessment to students and designated providers (HIPAA/FERPA compliance)
  • Participate in the collection and recording of student health documents that qualify with NYS as immunization and assessment compliant
  • Assist with answering phones, scheduling, and triaging
  • Perform additional office support duties including answering phones, scheduling, filing, and others as assigned
  • Coordinate outreach and programming efforts with the Student Health and Counseling team and other staff/faculty as necessary and appropriate.
  • Develop therapeutic relationships with students, college staff/faculty, and referral sources in the community.
  • Maintain a positive, compassionate bedside manner
  • Perform point of care tests including: blood samples, fingersticks, Urine Hcg, EKG’s,etc.
  • Attend and participate in meetings, student education sessions, special events, orientations, etc. as needed (evenings and weekends may be included)
  • Provide teaching in the areas of health promotion, disease prevention, maintenance, and management of acute/chronic diseases and participate in regular health events to contribute to the wellbeing of the student body

Important Considerations:

  • Physical Demands – Ability to perform tasks involving standing, walking, lifting, climbing stairs, moderate physical effort, lifting and maneuvering patients, occasionally must reach above the head and carry medium-weight equipment
  • Work Environment/Hazards – exposure to communicable diseases, blood and blood products, illness, sharp instruments and needles, and electricity when in clinical areas.

  • Report for regular office hours and when necessary, work beyond business hours to meet program or staffing needs, as needed.
